May Book Giveaways
This month's craft book giveaway is How to Write a Children's Book and Get it Published -Revised and Expanded, by Barbara Seuling.
I was fortunate enough to attend a conference in which Barbara was the speaker.
She is very inspiring and encouraging.
She not only writes and illustrates children's books, but has also worked on the editing side. She gives a good perspective of what it takes to be a writer and what editors are looking for.
This book covers:
Picture books
Easy Readers
Chapter books
Novels
Non-fiction
Writing in Verse
Plays
I like this book because it starts at the very beginning of finding a idea and pursuing it. Setting up a writing routine. It takes more than talent, it takes discipline. How to study the market, and promote your work.
She also gives examples of query and cover letters.
Examples of how to make a Dummy book for picture books.
There is even a chapter dedicated to those talented enough to write and illustrate!
If you are a beginner or are interested in writing for children, this book is a good place to start. Barbara covers all aspects and even includes the business end.
We have all heard write what you know, but Barbara goes one step further when writing non-fiction, "write what you are passionate about."
Please leave a comment to be eligible to win this book and mention it on your own blog or website.
See you next week!

What a fantastic giveaway! I would love to receive this book to start my reference collection. Thank you for the offer!
Hooray for giveaways.....especially this book. I enter giveaways as a Librarian to get new books to kids. But, I've also been writing. And, truthfully, I need a craft book badly right now. So, thank you for doing this!
Thanks for the opportunity to win this book. I am a retired teacher. I have immersed myself in the kid lit world for the last two years. I am learning as fast as I can. This book would be great.
I've heard about this book, but have not ever read it. Thanks for doing a give-away. You're very generous.
This looks interesting. Great giveaway!
As a new writer, this book would be super helpful. I appreciate the encouragement "write what you are passionate about". Even reading your blog feels inspiring to me. Thanks for your blog.
Thanks for the chance! This book sounds like just the ticket to get all of ideas out of my head. I would be happy to post a review of it on my blog--www.thestubbypencilslibrary.com
